By Lisa Colcord

Mr. Stephens and the Arizona Library Association have agreed to increase the amount of the Louise A. Stephens Memorial Scholarship to $2,000. The scholarship is awarded to an AzLA member enrolled in the University of Arizona’s School of Information M.A. program. This year’s applications are due by July 1, 2018.

For more information on the scholarship, including how to apply, please see the AzLA Stephens Scholarship web page. The following is excerpted from that page:

Louise Stephens was a graduate of the University of Arizona School of Information, and worked for Glendale Public Library for 30 years, where she was a children’s librarian and library manager, retiring in January 2007. Louise was active in the Arizona Library Association, serving as its Association President, Public Library Division President, and Awards Chair. In 2001, she was named the association’s Librarian of the Year, and in 2007, she received the Rosenzweig Award for distinguished service. Louise advocated for libraries as a centerpiece of a community as well as the need for networking among librarians. Louise passed away in July 2007, and an endowed scholarship was established in her memory.
